About
Formed in 2011, Dying Machines is multi-instrumentalist Thomas Buschbach. Combining elements of ambient, modern classical and post-rock, Dying Machines weaves elaborate aural textures consisting of layer upon layer of reverb soaked guitars, piano and classical instruments that resonate deeply within the soul.
Released on Mush Records in September 2012, Dying Machines’ first EP, Nicht Sprechen, was critically well-received and positively reviewed by numerous publications. Calling it “A compelling release of tones and light”, Blinded by Sound recommended the album as “a beautifully contemplative and outstandingly patient piece work”. While Cyclic Defrost referred to it as “an impressive and immersive debut”. In May 2013, Dying Machines’ second EP, What I Have Not Forgotten (also on Mush Records), garnered similar praise with Textura suggesting the tracks were “transporting, five-minute epics that play like heady fusions of Arvo Pärt and Stars Of The Lid”, and Muruch proclaiming the song It Has Been as “a gorgeous cinematic track which builds to an excruciating climax”. 2015 saw You, Dying Machines’ self-released first full-length album, named as one of The Silent Ballet’s top 100 albums of the year and marked the last commercial release for the next nine years. Drawing from an intervening period fraught with personal challenges, 2024’s self-released A Map of the Stars represents Dying Machines’ emotional return to songwriting, and is the second full-length release from the band.
